Bing: The Un-Google Search Engine

Wednesday, June 17, 2009

Microsoft Corp. unveiled Bing, a new Decision Engine and consumer brand, designed to replace Live Search, providing customers with a first step in moving beyond search to help make faster, more informed decisions. It's a solid improvement over the previous search product and it carries forward the company's strategy for taking on Google and Yahoo. Besides introducing a new look to Microsoft's search interface, Bing adds a spruced-up navigation for search results, including a new left-hand navigation bar, a hover feature that lets users preview Web pages before visiting them, and a categorized search feature that groups search results by topic category.

According to Microsoft, Bing has the capability to scour the Web more deeply and to deliver more-relevant search results faster. Whereas Google emphasizes a stark, quick-loading design and a list of highly relevant search results, Bing's search results are organized into what it calls Search Categories -- subdivisions such as Web, Maps, Images, and Health. In a particular search, Bing creates Search Categories dynamically in response to the search query. Bing is less about repeat searches, which Weitz sees as the key feature of Googling, and more about finding the answer you're looking for the first time or helping you refine that search from the search results page. Microsoft will attempt to turn a good market position as a search engine product around in the coming weeks with a reported $100 million marketing campaign for Bing. Now question is Bing able to compete with Google? Is it able break Google monopoly search engine business? Take a tour Bing.com and post your comment.

How to recover delete file

Friday, June 12, 2009

Sometimes unconsciously or accidentally you delete an important file and after deleting you recognize that you've lost an important file forever! But before you hit the big red panic button, there's a very good chance that your file is still alive and kicking somewhere on your hard drive—you just need to know how to find it. I have found a good working file recovery tools named NTFS Undelete. It is free and open source software that allows you to recover deleted files. It recovers files directly from hard drive, and it will work even if you empty Recycle Bin.

So you've lost an important file. Don't panic. Take a breath, and let's see if we can find it. Before downloading NTFS Undelete, you have to consider the following :

Stop! What you're doing

When you delete a file, its content physically remains intact on the media, but the occupied space becomes marked as free. Next file saved to the disk may overwrite the contents of the deleted file.
It is very important to make sure that no application writes to the drive or partition where deleted file is located since every new file (even a small one) may overwrite the deleted file.

Recover Your Files

1. Run NTFS Undelete application and locate deleted file you'd like to restore.

2. Always recover files to another disk or partition. Do not recover files to the same partition they were located, otherwise files you are recovering may get corrupted and unrecoverable.

3. That's it, now you have your files back!

How to download your favorite website through offline browser

Thursday, June 11, 2009

In my previous post, I inform about HTTrack website Copier tool through which you can download your necessity website and when you are in offline, you can browse your downloaded website without net connection. Today’s post I am going to tell about how to configure HTTrack website Copier and browse in offline.

Download and Install Offline Browser

To copy your most wanted site, download HTTrack and install it in your PC.

Configure HTTrack program

1. Run HTTrack program

2. You see welcome screen. Click Next to go to the next window and in the next window you have to put down some information about your project name, project category, path location. See picture 1, in my project I want to download www.w3schools.com so I named this project as w3schools and typed Tutorial in Project category as it is a tutorial site. Actually, it’s no matter what you write down in Project name and Project category. It completely depends upon you what your project name and project category. Below the Project category, you see Base path where you choose location where your desired project is downloaded. After typing all information, click on the Next button.

3. In the next window, you have to put down some other information like- your desired URL or web address. See picture 2, you can see some other various options in Action bar. As you want to download the whole site, so select Download web site(s). And add your desired website address to click on the add URL. Below the add URL have another option named Preference and mirror options. You can customize your software from this option like input your proxy address and port number if it is required, set what types of file you would like to download, set the maximum mirroring depth, maximum external depth, site size limit etc. But my own suggestion is as you are new HTTrack user, you can just avoid the set option. After inputting all information click on the Next button.

4. Now click on the Finish button without changes the any other option and you can see your desired website is copied just like picture 3.

Viewing the Downloaded Blog

Now navigate to where the index.html page of the downloaded site is. Double click on the index.html. Open new window of HTTrack, click on the Hyperlink and browse your site in any preferred time as you like as many.

What do you do when you receive “Out of Virtual Memory” message?

Sunday, June 7, 2009

Sometimes you face a common message “Out of Virtual Memory”. When virtual memory becomes full, you have to face this message. If you install more programs, you would be facing this problem. To solve this problem, the best solution is to uninstall unnecessary programs from your PC and then follow these steps:

1. Right-click My Computer and then click Properties.
2. In the System Properties dialog box, click the Advanced tab.
3. In the Performance pane, click Settings.
4. In the Performance Options dialog box, click the Advanced tab.
5. In the Virtual memory pane, click Change.
6. Change the Initial size value and the Maximum size value to a higher value [800MB or more], click Set, and then click OK.
  • For best performance, do not set the initial size to less than the minimum recommended size under Total paging file size for all drives. The recommended size is equivalent to 1.5 times the amount of RAM on your system. Usually, you should leave the paging file at its recommended size, although you might increase its size if you routinely use programs that require a lot of memory.

7. Click OK to close the Performance Options dialog box, and then click OK to close the System Properties dialog box.
